Toyota Prius - Annoyed
Well, we are not happy at the moment. The Toyota dealer called Sarah to let her know that a Prius is available. However, they only have the next model up, not the base model. And, the dealer says, that is all Toyota plans on making this year.
So why, we asked, did they take our order and $500 deposit for a base model car if they have no plans on fulfilling it? We have waited 8 months for a car that they don’t plan on delivering. This sounds an aweful lot like a bait-and-switch tactic on Toyota’s part and I’m going to be calling the state attorney’s office tomorrow for their opinion.
In the meantime, don’t buy a Toyota.
Update: I’ve just done a little checking at the Toyota site. Seems the dealer was less than clear on what has come in. Toyota has changed the “option” packages and, in essence, the base model that we ordered they no longer make. The “base” model that we wanted was the simple power windows/mirrors, AC stuff. The new “base” package ($1,100 worth) includes Smart Entry and side airbags - all stuff that was in the next higher package.
I don’t think this is illegal, but it is shitty. We won’t be purchasing a Toyota, which annoys us because we really wanted the hybrid. I guess it’s time to look at the Honda again.
Thank you Toyota for wasting 8 months of our time. It’s cost you our business.

Aw, that sucks!! I love Toyota cars, they last forever… but that’s a pretty shitty way to do business.

That freakin’ sucks. I’d still call the state attorney general. They took your order and accepted your deposit. They made a contract to deliver a vehicle to you for a particular price. If that model is no longer available, I believe they have a grace period (of 30 days) to provide one, or much provide an equivalent or better product for the same price.
