Platinum Death
My Handspring Visor Platinum seems to be down for the count.
I’ve had it for three or four years now with very little trouble. It flaked out with a ‘fatal error’ once before about a year ago. This time nothing seems to resurrect it.
I’ve tried the various soft and hard resets that I can remember, but nothing is bringing it back. More correctly, it sort of comes back then dies again. After reseting it seems to work just fine, then I attempt to sync it with the computer. It will make it through the full sync until it gets to the “Cleaning up” stage at which point it goes all “fatal error” on me.
I think next up on the list of “let’s try this” is to completely remove the Palm Desktop, wipe the handheld (batteries have been out for several hours now), reinstall Desktop and try resyncing like it’s the first time. I don’t hold much hope.
Then of course, I should check the PalmOne website for any suggestions. Anyone out there have a similar problem? Let me know.

Seems to me that there’s a double-plus hard reset that has something to do with holding down the power button while pressing the restart button. It’s supposed to completely whack everything that’s on the unit, so you’d need to completely reload it. However, given that it’s basically a glorified paperweight right now, it might be worth a try.

Yup, just found that one: power, “up” bottom, reset. Wipes the system clean. Still died on hotsynch.
Next up: same double-secret-hard-reset plus uninstall/reinstall of Palm Desktop.
