Say Cheese!
This is the most beautiful profile I have ever seen:

It was amazing. Sarah and I figured it would take the RN a minute or two to locate and orient the Wee Little One, but as soon as she placed the ultrasound on Sarah’s belly – whamo – there it was, posing in the nice profile you see.
Of course that was all the co-operation we got out of it. The little lizard (ok, it was sitting more like a frog, but we’ll stick with just one reptile comparison for now) is currently sitting breach (butt down) and after providing a nice profile, it turned it’s back to us and wouldn’t budge from there. We tried a couple of different remedies – walking around, having Sarah lay on her stomach, jiggling the hell out of her abdomen – but the little bugger just wouldn’t budge.
Despite that, the RN did get a few critical bits of data. Basically, Wee Little One weighs in at 9 oz., and all its limbs and bits look good. It stuck an arm toward us, giving us a nice close up of a hand and five little fingers. The RN also looked at it’s brain, which I must say looked mighty and super-genius like, and did some measurements; she also imaged the kidneys and checked out the blood flow to them. Very cool, that ultrasound machine.
And while we got a glimpse of the beating heart and could see all four chambers, the RN couldn’t get a clear shot of it – thanks to the backward facing and unco-operative child – in order to get whatever information she needed. Which just means that we have to schedule another appointment and hope the Little One is facing the right way round.

Cute! I don’t think I’ve seen an ultrasound profile so clear before, that’s kind of amazing.

Hey! I thought you said you were having a lizard! Why, that looks like a super-genius Barry-Ween like child!
Any idea if it’s a boy or girl? Or are you kids going to wait and be surprised?

We are not finding out the gender. That just takes away all the surprise - and makes coming up with a name twice as frustrating. : )

Speaking of which, how’s that whole name-game coming along?

It’s amazing how uncooperative the wee ones are when the ultrasound comes along. I think they don’t like the sensation.
