20″ long

Our daughter

She arrived 18 days earlier than expected, but all is well. Both mom and daughter are healthy and happy.

Sarah and I were up at our usual 5:00 am on Friday, worked a full day and I helped a friend move (who predicted that we were going to have the baby that weekend). After helping him move, we took a little nap and got up at 8:00 pm to watch a movie we rented. As I was walking out of the bedroom, Sarah stood up and, in disbelief, announced that her water had broken.

We stood around pondering just what the heck that meant as it slowly sank in that we were having a baby. We called the doctor and waited for labor to do its thing.

Sarah’s contractions started around 9:00 and progressed smoothly and steady hour by hour. The only difficulty was that it was all back labor — very painful from what she tells me. By midnight we determined that it was time to head to the hospital.

At 3:00 am the two of us were very tired and her back labor hadn’t gone away. She opted for one small dose of Nubane, which took the edge off of the pain and actually allowed the two of us to catch about a 4o minute nap.

By 6:40ish contractions were strong and steady and she began pushing. At 7:17 we were holding our new daughter.

There will, of course, be more pictures and updates. We are home now and doing well. Our biggest challenge at the moment is getting Olivia to eat regularly. We’ll get there.

  2. She’s absolutely beautiful, and I love the name. I can’t wait to see her in person.

Someday, I’m sure she’ll even forgive you for setting her up for the very obvious nickname of “O.J.” :-)

  7. Way to go you 2! (Well…3)
The OJ moniker is too obvious so from now on Tim, due to your driving skills, you will be known as “Al Cowlings” …cuz you’ll be chauffering Olivia around for the rest of your life. Enjoy. You 3 are truly blessed.

  8. She’s Beautiful! Is there anything cuter than a chubby baby in a little hat?! Who knew they came with hats?! Congrats! To be too disappointed if she doesn’t notice all the work you put into the nursery.
