Nearly 3 Weeks
Well, the counter in the corner reads 0. Our “due date” is here. Of course, Olivia has already been around for nearly 3 weeks.
I’m back to work this week and my mom has been out to help us transition. And we’ve needed it. Seems Olivia’s crying is full-blown colic. Our days have consisted of her waking up around 8:00 am and napping in the afternoon. Around six or seven in the evening she begins to get fussy between naps and feeding and by 10:00 pm she breaks into full song.
The intense part of colic lasts for about 2 hours — that’s 2 hours of solid, loud crying, broken only while she catches her breath. Once she calms down, we have to hold her or she’ll start up again. Yes, that means we have to hold her all night long. Yes, that means one of us is sleeping in a chair while holding her. She sleeps through the bulk of the night this way, so that’s a good thing. The alternative is, well, let’s not go there.
(Last night was a good night. She got fussy early, went to sleep early, and slept nearly all night.)
Despite that, she is absolutely adorable. I love watching her grow. The progress she has already made is amazing. It isn’t much, but seeing her focus on more objects for longer periods of time and gaining control over her flailing arms and legs is pure magic.
Pure magic. That’s my little girl.

She is a Princess! I was glad that I was able to help out. Olivia is a precious child and yes to see her focus more and more is truly amazing. This grandma will be over again to help out. Hugs and kisses to the three of you. You are doing a great job of loving and caring for your special girl. I know you were a tender man (even if you don’t want to show it) but seeing you with Olivia makes my heart melt.
Love mom and grandma
