Geeks on Fire
Yesterday was interesting. Chinese proverb interesting.
The project I’ve been working on had an integration build, so the project lead, programmer and I sat in a conference room, laptops a blaze, solving some last minute code problems. It was really quite fun to code on the run with two other people — me working on css, the programmer rewriting some xslt and the lead working on updating the wiki to reflect our changes, modifying resource bundles and synchronizing files. It was geeky goodness.
OK, it turns out it wasn’t an actual fire, but the alarms did sound, we did evacuate and it wasn’t a drill. Seems an air conditioning unit in the server room failed. The fire suppression system went off, servers and phone systems shut down, and we all stood in the cold until they sent us home.
Yes, an interesting day indeed.
